Intermediate Shaft Replacement...Reinstallation HELP!!!!!!!!!!! 200 1979

Struggling to get my intermediate shaft back in the new engine.

I'm swapping in a b230ft for my b21f...switching the aux shafts cuz i need one with the distributor gear. I got them out, and the right one goes in the motor fine, but can't get the oil pump gear seated...dunno how to do this and I'll admit this is my first time attempting something like this.

I figured i'd maybe drop the oil pump gear back down first and then install the aux shaft, but now can't even get the aux shaft all the way out.

FRUSTRATING!

I found that the oil pump drive shaft had a strange springyness to it. It kind of pops up every time, feels like the fit is so precise that the air can not pass to let it drop in the pump. If that's your problem, simply bolt the PCV down on it, or push it home while turning the intermediate shaft. The gears will engage eventually.

I thought all 240 intermediate shafts come with distributor gears. If this b230 is from a 240, it should have a distributor gear since the 240s have distributors driven off the intermediate rather than the cam.

The oil pump gear dropped in (after falling out) when I rotated a b320 engine on an engine stand.

OP said it was a B230FT - never available in 240's for the North Am. market, AFAIK. It must have come out of a 700/900 car with camshaft-mounted distributor, so needs a 240 i-shaft. (No room behind the cyl head in the 240 engine bay for the cam-mount dizzy.)
