It is not that difficult, I've done it. You probably want to change the door locks at the same time, no? If you can find a set of locks with keys, go for it.
To change the ignition lock you need to (remove all the plastic covers on the steering column of course, and) locate the two smooth head screws that go up through the dash cross-member and hold the steering column to the cross-member. Then spend some really awkward up-side-down time drilling them out. They look like giant brass rivets but are in fact screws with the head smoothed off, so only drill big enough to get some sort of screw extractor in (you don't want to damage the thread in the holes), and then twist them out. If I remember, you will then need to drop the dash cross-member to get the lock barrel out. It's held on to the steering column by a collar, one screw on each side of the column. To install the new one, find some (regular-headed) screws the same size and thread as the ones you just butchered getting it all apart, and reverse the process.
The door locks are very easy, remove the door panels and any good backyard mechanic will see how to do this.
