Rear Wiper Motor Barely Works 200 1993

When I turn the rear wipers on, the wiper arm moves a few inches and then stops. The only way to get the motor to turn completely is to manually help the wiper arm move. I checked the wiring, it is not broken, though the wiring on the driver's side was. I replaced the driver's harness this afternoon. I ran a jumper to the motor and it does the same thing as when I used the switch on the column. Is there a way to fix this? Or, is it time to replace the whole motor?

See my recent post for one possibility, the wiper blade shaft bearing:

PS If this is the problem, I'd stop running the motor until you clean up the bearing. Otherwise, you will need a new wiper motor like I did!

Joe, the wiper arm seems to move very smoothly if you help it. Is this a sign of worn bushings? If the bushings are bad and I replace the motor, will it destroy the new motor, or are they sealed in the old motor housing? I've found rebuilt replacement motors for 90 dollars and used as low as 35 plus shipping.I'm sure if I give it time, I will eventually find one at the PnP. Right now I'm having an unrelated issue with my rear defrost coming on when my third brake light activates and vice versa, even after replacing the harness. I've deactivated the defrost for now. Being that it's winter now, I'll probably be giving a little more attention to the rear window with a scraper, so hitting it with a squeegee while I'm back there shouldn't be too much to ask. Thanks for the help. John

    hello john,
    it might be your motor.

but, before i upgraded my 86 245 hatch to a 1990 donor hatch, my wiper motor in the rear did fine. never went slow.

my brother's 87 244 windshield wiper motor was going out and it became slow, and i replaced it with a used, newer motor. did the trick.

should be able to get one below $25.

    regards,
