940 heater control valve - Ford replacement 900

Drop-in replacement for the OEM metal-and-plastic heater control valves (9447896 ) used in the 940 (and probably 740, too) is available from Ford dealers. Motorcraft part number YG-136. List price is $31.68, local dealer sold it to me for $18.80. Side-by-side, the valves are clearly the exact same thing. Local Volvo dealer wanted over $80, Tasca wants $64. Quite a mark-up from the red box to the blue box!!

no, the 240's use a completely different valve, which has hoses exiting at a 90 degree angle. It's located inside the cabin, right next to the driver's foot. 940 has the valve under the hood, where heat and oil residues shorten the lifespan.

Not exactly the same thing, but my 86 764T used a part in the heater function which I cannot recall that was the same as a Cadillac part. The price was something similar to what you are quoting: $80 Volvo vs. $21 GM.

Funny how a company will share parts among it's divisions. Look for Ford A/C compressors to fit too. I found the cheapest place to find BMW diesel engine parts was the Ford dealer.

Nice find! An ebay search found one, for Ford Shelby Mustang, made entirely of metal. However, at $50, I can buy almost three of the plastic ones. If I replace one every seven years, that is almost three plastic heater valves, or twenty-one years of consecutive car use. While I hope I'll be driving my 940 twenty-one years from now, I doubt it.

That's what I said 21 years ago with my '74 144. Still driving it.

Motorcraft YG-136 heater control valve ($17.52 at Rock Auto) 900

    Hi John,

I got one of those YG-136 Motorcraft valves last Fall, as a preemptive replacement for a 7 year-old MTC brand.

I just happened to find it at RockAuto. Some googling shows it's also available as D4AZ-18495-A for Fords, and under other numbers for some GM applications too. The USPS delivery was quick and only about $2.50 instead of the typical $8 or $10 from the usual sources.

They still show it for $17.52 at Rock Auto.
