my repair guy said he needs to take off the radiator to take off the crankshaft pulley. is he correct? He also said that the alternator belts i had just bought from fcpgroton are too small even though i sized them up with the old ones and they were the same.

he needs to pull the radiator because he doesn't have the tool to hold the pulley while removing/installing. more room for the air impact tool. shouldn't charge extra, save the coolant and off you go.

regarding the belts, without actual sizes, no one call tell what's right or wrong. good luck, chuck.

ok well this guy is going to charge me $300 to change it. I found another place that wont take the radiator out, but the guy at the first place took all the belts off the pulleys. Can I still drive the car without these belts? Alernator belts, AC belts, etc. Basically everything except the timing belt.

There will be not water pump, alternator or power steering. The engine will over heat if driven more than a block or two.

Volvo Pulley's are not like American car Pulley's you do not need a Puller to get the Crank Pulley off.
Mechanic #1 sounds a bit 200 ignorant.

1989. I towed it to another shop that specializes in Volvo's. They did it for $40. I'm happy and smarter. Also, does anyone know where the FAQ section for the 240 is?
