Rear Axle questions 700

Hello

What is the ratio for the turbo diesel?

Is the 240 series axle interchangeable into a 740?? I have a 90 5 speed 240 and I want a better ratio (3.31) for my 740 auto....

Thanks

Al Taylor

    Rev. Al!!

What a small world.. As usual.

What do you want me to do with this tail light?
Sell it and Pay pal the money to you??

    I'll need some more parts...maybe.
The 740 quit on me coming home from work last night. I'm at the cost/value line i always draw. so i don't know how far I'll go to fix this.

    Hello John

Thanks for the info!, I have a 1991 740 Automatic, looking to save some rev's on the highway as I drive this car 30k a year...

Sedan, or wagon? They have different gearing.

Should have 4.10:1. It will be an Eaton locker. 1991 and earlier NA 740s did not have the Eaton locker, which I expect you'll want to keep.

Turbo automatic 740/940 had 3.73. 740Ts (scarce) with manual transmission had 3.54:1 ratio, and 1992-94 960 wagons had 3.31:1 ratio. M47 equipped NA 740s (scarce) also had the 3.31:1 ratio, while the 3.91: ratio came in earlier 744s (not the 745) with ZF or AW70.

If you change rear ends, you'll have to make sure the tone ring count (drives the electronic speedometer) stays the same.

            Hello John

Thanks for the information, I have a 745T auto wagon parts car, think I will switch to that axel. Being a 4.10 and LOUD it has to go. Not really concerned with the LS, would probably sell that unit, would you be interested? I guess 4.10 to 3.73 will help and will keep my eye out for a manual car in the yards...I used to drive a 745T with a 5 speed and it was great, sold it, bought it back and like an idiot sold it again.

            Thanks

What year 745T? It makes a difference.

Your car has a locker, not a limited slip.

Our three 944Ts have lockers, and my earlier 745T has a Detroit TruTrac.

Just found a NA 85 744 5 spd and an 87 Turbo 5 spd in the local pick a part, anyone interested in the axels? They are located Durham nC.

                  Thanks
