Another speedo repair,87,88 240 200

Hello, Working on a 1987 240, mileage unknown. Just replaced wireharness for the engine, engine computer and spark computer, swapped out the fuel rail and injecters, updated flame trapp to 88 and up. Now I want to tackle the speedo head and get that working, will the 1988 work in the 1987? I think it will but I need to eliminate the temp. compensation board and do some testing for the fuel sender and odometer motor, gear is good, have speed indicated. Does anybody (Art comes to mind) have a run through for the 240 speedo heads to trouble shoot all the circuits. I want to put the 88 in the 87 because it has the reminder for service, I removed the tach and installed the clock;it works, Tach didn't work, but the odometer doesn't work and the temp guage and fuel guage don't work, is it different in circuit wiring or do I just have a bum circuit board. Looking for some help. Thanks. Pauli

Pauli, I'm pretty sure the 88 is different only in the service reminder and possibly a difference in paint finish, although I thought that came in 89. David Samuels has a better handle on this. My experience with the LH2.2 years is only from yarding.

You could always try a search on the BB. Look at the little red wagon up top for the search box. Dave's web page also...

Thanks Art. I have the cluster working now, I had to use parts from three different clusters to make everything work. I was trying to find the diagram for bypassing the temp. comp. board. I thought Turbobicks had it, but I have yet to find that. I also wanted to trouble shoot the resistor for the motor, but have missplaced that info as well. Thanks for your help. I am going to email Dave about his new cushion replacement.

Hi Paulii,

Without question Art is AMAZING! I discovered the face of the Speedo/Odo has a "K" # to it K39200 or K9800, or a K104???. I believe my 91 has a different order of wireing on the 90 degree connector than what is on the 93. I also noticed inside the Speedo/odo head has 4 female connections on side of the electric motor side of the K39200 while the K9800 has only 3 connections? The coresponding male pins come out of the Light colored plastic housing in the intrument cluster. Someone mentioned just resoldering the joints. I did that and it also helped. I'm a Newbie and this may be really dumb stuff I just typed, but when I came in cold it was a steep learning curve.

Best of luck, Joe
