FYI -- 2 fixes for cruise control problems. 900

I recently had the cruise control go out on my 1994 944 and 945, so I thought I would share how I fixed each for next to nothing.

Using my mighty vac I traced the problem on my 944 to a pinhole leak on the cruise control bellows under the hood. I cleaned the rubber bellows and applied a small inner tube patch.

On my 945 I traced the problem to a leak at the brake switch near the brake pedal. I was able to take the switch apart and replace the "O" ring with an extra from a pack of o rings left over from some AC work.

It has been several months and both are still working like new.

FYI -- 2 fixes for cruise control problems. 900

In addition, the 1991+ 700/900 cruise controls are connected to the park/neutral safety switch. The cruise control must see an open circuit (car in gear) for the cruise control to work. Anyone installing a manual transmission in one of these cars must cut the pink wire shown in the accompanying picture for the cruise control to work. The connector is usually just in front of the bracket that holds the cruise control brake switch. If the park/neutral safety switch is bad, and the car will start in gear, the cruise control will not work.

Do you know if there is a similar wire that must be cut on 240s?

Thanks for any help. I grabbed the cruise out of an automatic 1990 244 to install into my 1993 244 and everything seems good BUT when I hit set, I get two clicks from the cruise-brain in rapid succession, and no cruise.

Thanks in advance for any help,

        Ian

        Hi all
after about a year without cruise after the M-47 swap john figured out what my problem was and after cutting this pink wire all was good.
Well for about two weeks then while crusing on HWY the cruise just went out.
Hmmm after reading this post i pulled out the mityvac and found a hole in the vacume servo/bellows.
a small pinhole not visible until removed from car.
        thanks to all.
        Mike
