This is a new thread to revive the discussion I started back in November. At last year's IPD Garage Sale, there was a paltry number of 140's present, so I thought it would be fun to try and get a group of us 140 owners to crash the party this year!
I live 15 minutes from IPD and am happy to continue to organize this. In November, I assembled a list of all those that thought they could attend in their 140's. Please see the complete list below, and let me know if you need to be added or removed.
1. Jason - 1968 145S (white ext, tan int)
2. Brian - 1971 145S (yellow ext, black int)
3. Wayne - Lilly, 1971 145S (white ext)
4. Dave - 1972 142S (blue ext, blue int) (tentative)
5. John - 1967 144S (blue ext)
IPD has officially announced the 2011 date of May 21st, and has opened up for the car show applicants. I am going to contact Cameron at IPD to see what kind of possibilities there are for getting a reserved 140 section. I will report back when I have more information.
In the mean time, let's see if there is anyone else interested in contributing to a big 140 section!

How'd it go?
Pictures anyone?
Wish I could have been there.

I bought my 1972 142e about a month ago. I'm in the Sacramento area and attended the Davis car show but didn't think the car would handle the drive up to Portland. I wanted to go ><. Next year, definitely.

Greetings to all the 140/160 owners that will be joining us at the IPD garage sale this year. The meet is this saturday, and so I'd like to impart some final instructions for when and where to meet on Saturday morning, May 21st.
Across from the IPD building and parking lot, where the car show will be held, there is another business parking lot that gets used. This lot is directly across the street, and its entrance is just 50 yards east of IPD's main entrance. Generally, the west side of this parking lot is taken up by the swap meet, while the east side is taken up by overflow cars. It is in the east section that IPD has agreed to rope off a row of spaces for our 140 group. See the map below.

My contact at IPD has indicated that prior to the show start, access to this overflow parking lot is controlled at a makeshift gate where indicated on the map. This year, the gate will be controlled by Andrew, who will be dictating who gets into the lot. He will have instructions to direct 140's from our group to the roped off section.
So here is the kicker. Andrew will begin manning the gate and allowing people to enter at 7:15 am. IPD tells me that they can only guarantee our reserved 140 section until 8:30am. After that, they'll need to open up the entire parking lot to any Volvo that wants to enter and park. After 8:30, if there is no room left, a late 140 to the party will have to find space elsewhere. Therefore, if you want to park in the reserved section, arrive no later than 8:30 am!
Below is the final list of participants as of 5/17.

So I just picked up a second 145 last weekend (see other post) and I will now be bringing both! I am really excited. I will be there by 7:00 or earlier as I am helping out IPD that day with the event. My wife and I will each drive a 145 over and get them parked. I think I will be able to take breaks to come out and visit.
So...count me in with the following cars:
Lily 1971 145 white exterior blue interior
Esmeralda 1971 145 green ex. light brown in.
See you all there!
Super excited!

See the new master list below.
In addition, a member of OVT has let me know he has purchased a swap meet space for 140 parts only. There should be room for other people to bring 140 only parts to this section if you were thinking about selling something. If you have a few items, consider donating to him on sale day to offset the cost for renting the spot.
I will begin to include more information on when and where to meet as we approach the day!

Of the few people I've talked to, it seems having a dedicated section in the adjacent parking lot is the best idea. Our group is actually large enough now that there probably isn't sufficient room in the main show!
I will send out more detailed location instructions as we approach the date. In the mean time, here is the updated list of participants.

John in Seattle here. Moral dilemma with a possible solution.
I do indeed have a '67 144 in pale blue that I would be happy to drive down to Portland for the show with, but now that the Duett is running, I am tempted to take that down, for the greater level of obscurity.
One solution would be to find a Seattle person who wants to drive a car
down with me...

You could man some inquiries in the local clubs up there. I'm sure there's some lucky fool who'd love to drive it down.
If you don't have a driver by show time, let me know and I'll take you off the list.

I'm arriving late to the party; I just stumbled on this as I was looking for info on the garage sale. Count me in! I'll be coming down from Seattle. My '70 145s runs reliably / will make PDX, no prob. White exterior, blue interior.
I'm very excited to have a 140 section! Whether we're "registered" for the main show or not doesn't matter at all; what matters is that we get these cars together.
So, keep us posted and, uh, thanks for getting this together! This is going to be fun!

Thanks fisquid, I've added you to the list. Can you give me your real first name for the record?

Of course! I'm an idiot for not signing my messages. Thanks again.

I will be there with my 1970 145s. If I am feeling really ambitious I might bring out the race car too.

Marc, you need an extra driver for the red 142!

No race car but I think I have a extra driver for my wagon so I will bring the 1971 142E red ex w/ black in

I talked with Chantielle today and got some information that requires us to make another decision.
We have two options for getting a 140 group together at the show.
1. Several representatives can arrive early on show day and work with IPD to rope off a section of the side parking lot (across the street) where 140 arrivals can park together. This area is not IPD's parking lot, and is not part of the show. However, just a few of us can secure a section for others that may arrive late, and not everyone on the list needs to individually contact IPD.
2. We can all contact Cameron individually to enter our 140's into the actual car show in IPD's main lot. Once everyone has been entered, we can work with then to park together in that lot on show day.
The primary question is how many on the list want to be in the main car show, versus how many want to be on the side lot. I had my 140 in the actual show last year, and would be happy either way. I'd much rather park next to a bunch of 140's on the side lot then next to some ricer 850 in the main lot though!
Is there anyone else on the list that has their heart set on being in the main show?
|
|
|
I don't need a spot in the main lot. Lilly isn't the prettiest car to look at as the cosmetic work is yet to come.
I be perfectly happy surrounded by a bunch of 140's across the street.

I have a connection to IPD. I would suggest you talk to Chantielle (ex. 137) there as she is excited to see a good showing of 140's show up and would like to get us a great spot. She is also quickly becoming the 'go to' person for vintage related business.

That's my birthday! Would love to bring my blue 1971 144S, but it is a bit of a long drive from New Zealand...
It's been in storage for 4 1/2 years, last time it was started was over 3 years ago. Last week I cleaned it a bit, poured petrol in the carbs (fuel tank pick-up filter is blocked solid), turned it over and it started as if it was never off the road. So amazed at this brick, it will stay with me for many years to come.

Interesting thought...
way too soon to think about, but I sure want to (will) get to OR this year. Not sure if the 145 can play a role, nor if I can be there then. But I'll sure as heck keep the date in mind. sub 15mpg won't bode well in my decision.
Matt-'Jan' '70 145 Ugly (faded original) red, Ugly gray. no rust, quick.
Very, very tentative.
