Factory CB? 200

Many years ago (about 16-18 ish) I saw a used Volvo that I really wanted to buy but was a broke H.S. student. I can not remember the year/model of it but it had a factory CB Radio along with AM/FM radio all integrated into one. Does anyone know which year/model this was that had this option? I was looking to possibly get one for my '93 240.

Hello,

I have one of the modular units.

It does not have the AM-FM radio.

I believe it is this one that bulletproof listed in 1 of his posts.

Remote 40 Channel Modular CB ALL MODELS 1976-1981 283782-1.

It works, but there is a break or several breaks in the microphone wiring as a jiggle of the wires can make it work and then sometimes not.

IIRC, I have the installation instructions.

I also have one of the Volvo radios with a built in cassette that records as well as plays.

Reviving this old thread to ask if you might share your installation instructions for the remote modular unit? I have one of these and would like to see about installing it. I sent you an email through brickboard as well with some specific questions. Thanks!

Hello,

I have not actually installed the CB, but I did however test the unit and it does work.

I got your email and I have already sent a response along with some pictures of the CB.

Sounds both interesting and retro. In the late 70's I had a Scirocco and installed an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette/CB radio. It had an interesting feature in that with the CB on it would fade the CB calls in over the FM or cassette, then fade back to music.

I don't recall seeing such a unit at the Volvo dealer when I had my first 240 (1976) in for service in the early 80's but it could have been.

CB radios were available as a Volvo accessory at least by '76.

They had a modular CB and an AM/FM/CB integrated unit.

This is from the '81 accessories brouchure:

Remote 40 Channel Modular CB ALL MODELS 1976-1981 283782-1

Combination 40 Channel CB/AM/FM Stereo ALL MODELS 1976-1981 283770-6

They also offered antennas. By '85 or so it seems they were selling only the antenna.

Go to http://www.k-jet.org/documents/brochures/ and scroll down. You'll see the accessories brouchres and a lot of other interesting Volvo Dealer literature.

I don't imagine this was the most sought after Volvo accessory, even when CB was in it's heyday.

But you are keen to have one. Are there still CB enthusiasts out there? It just seems like such a thing of the past.

Bullet,
You know most people would say we are driving a "thing of the past".

Very good point!

In many ways, I'm still living in the 20th century.

Early 1980's, as I recall (admittedly vaguely). N.M.I. 200

Im quite ignorant about a Volvo factory CB-am/fm radio being installed at the factory into a passenger car. I'm going to venture a guess or 2-and it's ONLY a guess. One is that maybe it was meant for a Volvo truck? (I don’t know as that Volvo did that either, but maybe they did?) OR maybe someone special ordered it--OR maybe it was a generic someone installed themselves? I never heard of that, but if you find out, let us know.

I think it may be posssible for you to get something like that somewhere tho. Maybe start with Radio Shack?

no, it was a FACTORY installed CB radio, much the same way that Land Rovers have weather radios incoporated into the am/fm radios. The mic was had wired into the dash. I believe it was a 240 but I really honestly can not remember the year/model that would have been around 1994, and it was used then, in the $2000 range. So I am guessing early-mid 80's.

1993 was the last year of the 240.
