I forgot to reset the radio code after doing a repair on my wife's 92. When she tried to turn on the radio she got the C O D E message. Without asking me what the code was, she tried entering a series of either random or lucky numbers and the radio now has entered the E E E E zone. Can I disconnect the battery for a given period of time and return to C O D E, or am I forced to seek an intervention from the Volvo dealer?

Poorgie,
You have to re-set the radio.

The car key has to be on for about two hours in position I
with the radio on. You can just have it sitting in your
driveway, the car does not have to be running.

The radio will be ready for the CODE then.

I also thought that cutting the power would do the job,
but it does not.

Warning! 200

I'm not sure about this, but when I converted to Pertronix electronic ignition, the instructions were to not leave the key in the run position II for long periods of time without the engine running.

So make sure you are in position I, just in case your EI is also susceptible.

Trev29,

The radios that need codes and/or re-setting were post 1989 and
not the earlier models which needed the updated ignition systems.

Another solution would be to take a two hour drive while the radio is
turned on and that will re-set it.

Good Day,
Joseph in NM
