leaky weber side drafts 120-130

I am looking for some advise on my weber 40 DCOE side drafts.
I have carefully rebuilt these carbs and they leak gas betweeen the carbs and intake after I shut the eng. off. I do notice that the idle jets drip a little after shut off but not enough to account for the quantity dripping out.
running about 2 lbs of fuel pressure.... The sound of hissing gasoline on the exhaust manifold makes me VERY nervous.
Any advise greatly appreciated Wilbur

leaky weber side drafts 120-130

found a plug in the chamber but.... not leaking there. Upon further inspection I noticed some very light indentations on the carb body in the area of the throttle return spring. The gasket was good but unable to seal due to these small indentations. he original gasket was .019 thick, I made a new one out of .031 gasket material and reset the float level to accomidate the thicker gasket and now, HURAY!, NO MORE LEAK!!!! You need a fuel pressure regulator; 2.5 PSI is good.

Carbs are tricky just full of bedevilment 120-130

I know nothing about weber side drafts but a leak between the carb and intake sounds like something is either loose or maybe the gaskets are faulty. Meanwhile are you sure that it's coming from where you think it's coming from? Does the leaking stop after a while? Could it be residual gasoline from when the car was being driven and just appears to be coming from thecarb/intake union?

upon closer inspsection I see that the fuel is seeping past the acceleration pump cover. So I may have a bad cover gasket but, I am not really sure if there is supposed to be raw fuel behind this cover or not?? anybody?? THANKS

I don't know either, but you seem to be on the right track.

Yes, there will be fuel behind the accelerator pump diaphragm (the diaphragm is the "gasket"). -- Dave

I'm lost. DCOE sidedrafts don't have accel pumps with diaphragms, nor separate covers for them. They are contained entirely in the carb body.

If you face the carbs in front of you so that the fuel mix will flow directly into your eyeballls you will see a cover inbetween the barrells. Behind this cover is an arm that has a cam like motion ( operated by the throttle shaft ). This arm operates the acc.pump thru a U shaped pin of sorts that goes up into the body.
fuel is leaking out from this cover! ........

Yeah, I think gas *can* get in there, but it's not supposed to be that much of it there. The u-shaped pin goes up and over the top of the fuel bowl fill line. Of course, with them shaking and buzzing all the time, i'm sure some gas gets in there. I've never noticed mine leaking there.

Is it possible the fuel level in the bowls is a little high?

Hello,

That plate is just a dust cover that allow access to the pump cam lever.

There should not be fuel in that area.

I hope the top cover gasket is leaking or broken.

The only other thing I can think of is a cracked or worn throttle body.

float level is ok. Called pierce manifold ( where I bought my rebuild parts ) and the tech said the only thing he could think of was a bad body plug.
To me this is the only thing that makes sense. I will post on what I find.
thanks all,for your input Wilbur
