HT cable - Coil to distributor cable - resistance kohm 200 1988

Tracking high CO AND HC in emissions I am looking at elements related to combustion of air/fuel mix.

Specifically I am curious about the resistance in the ignition cables.

It does not seem to matter between the distributor to the plug (?).

But I am seeing that the HT cable has a specified resistance and that the output voltage of the coil has to do with the resistance to the distributor.

I find that a replacement HT cable I installed in 2008 is 0.848 kohm
while specification is 2-3.5 kohm.
The old HT cable is 2.828 kohm.

Am I correct about the coil to distributor resistance
and that this .848 kohm is too low?

I found that too much total resistance interferes with spark production and the engine bucked.

The older 240s have different resistance requirements eg. non-resistor spark plugs. I put in resistor plugs as suggested for newer 240s and had problems. Now I try to keep the total resistance down (<8k ohm).

There maybe a web page that suggests ideal resistances. I think I read somewhere that the max limit is around 12k.

The ignition cables are not the problem. Now would be a good time to consider freshening up the engine.

Could you perform a compression test and post the results?
