72 parts for 71? 1800

i recently ran across this car sitting in a field. i approached the owner...very politely...and within the first thirty seconds she asked if i wanted it. i took a closer look and the car appears to be complete. i have a 71 with all of the body and engine work recently completed and am putting everything back together. it has been a LONG process but i feel like i am seeing the end of the tunnel. the body of this car is in pretty terrible shape but the chrome and aluminum parts are pretty good. also, all of the fuel injection is there. i offered 500 and we settled on 750. do you guys think that is a fair price for a parts car? also, the interior seemed pretty different than in the 71 so i wanted to make sure most of the other mechanical components were the same in both years. any advice is greatly appreciated and if things work out, i will be more than willing to help others looking for specific parts. i tried to put the picture here but if not it is in the gallery...twice. sorry

I'd sure like to see the picture, whatever that broke image is.

that said.. maybe I'm just way behind times. Yea.. $750 is a bargain for all the parts. I've never paid more than about $200 for any manner of parts car. But...

it's not a bad deal. if you need stuff, you'll come out way, way ahead.

In addition to other goodies... don't forget that the front hubs and spindles along with the rear end are just what 122 owners want in order to go 4 wheel disc brakes.

Don't let any parts go to the crusher... stuff is getting rare.

If it has the M41 tranny it is a bargain!
If it has good wheels and all the FI stuff it is still a good deal with BW35.

Most everything is the same minus a few little differences. The interior is different - switches and seats mainly. $750 seems pretty reasonable if it's complete and in decent condition. Any idea when it was run last? If the body is too far gone, you have space and a bit of time it would be a worthwhile effort to strip it down for parts.

the inspection sticker is from 94. so it had to run then. i do have the space for now so i will see how it works out. also it is a four speed with overdrive. how are the head and ecu different?

The head is a different casting, ports are different, and it has (in stock form) a much lower compression ratio... 8.7 vs 10.5 to 1. The ECU is "mapped" differently (revised fuel schedules) to account for these mechanical changes. I believe the US spec '72 B20F engine (the '70-'71 engine was a B20E) was the first B20 engine with internal/mechanical design changes made strictly for the purpose of accomodating stricter emission control standards.
