tire brand 120-130

I am looking for a set of 165/15 tires for my 122 and so far all of the manufacturers I find are no longer making them. Who is still selling these right now and what is a good make? I have short wide radials right now and have had one jump the rim twice. I want tall and skinny.
Thanks!

"I have short wide radials right now and have had one jump the rim twice."

Sounds interesting... please elaborate. If "short wide" tires of the proper diameter are jumping the rim (and like I said, I don't fully understand the term), tall skinny ones will most likely do the same. Something wrong here.

Hi Gary, what I mean by "jumping the rim" is the car currently has very wide, bulging low profile tires ment for a wide 1990s volvo rim on the narrow amazon rims. From a stop on a tight corner the tires will actually twist themselves off of the rim. Hence the search for the right tires. The rims are good, the tires are completely wrong at this time. They look like doughnuts? Now off to spend my hard earned mony.
      Thanks for the input.

This sounds... well, downright dangerous. I just cannot imagine a 15" tire in any width being able to come off the rim if inflated half decently. Exactly what size are these tires?

    Hello,

Pirelli is now making a 175/65/15 in their P3000E series tires.

I have been looking at tires also. It seems that the only good tires available are either Vredestein Sprint or Firestone F560. These are both radial tires. I don't know if I can trust bias ply.

I am trying to stay under $100 for each tire, but there are lots more for $100+. http://store.cokertire.com/15-inch-tire-sizes.html?adjclear=true

The Vredestein is good. For a less expensive tire, look for the Kumho Powerstar 756 -- not a super-traction performance tire, but quite decent for average use.

        I can't find a Powerstar 756. only 758.

but at $49 each, not bad. these are 165/80 15, though.

Where do you find the 756?

That is a pretty good deal. I will probably buy those. The actual tire height is 25.39" which is close to the same height as 165R15 tires. Thank you.

Did you get these tires? 120-130

I'm having a heck of time finding these tires. I'm looking for both 165/80R/15 (NA)and the 175/65/15 size Eric mentioned.

Online Tires has a number (Cerritos, CA) is the only place that lists them, and shows them as available, but....but nobody ever answers the phone.

Trying to keep it around $50-$60/tire.

What did you end up with?

            thanks

These are just driving around tires. Looking for speedo accuracy, economy/mileage and longevity, not performance. So any other recommendations welcome.

Just a question: Has anyone ever run bias-ply tires? Today I bought some more rims, so that I now have two sets of rims and a spare. On one set is 5.90 x 15 bias ply, and all the tires are in good condition. I also have a set of Michelin XYX tires 165SR15. If you bias-ply tires are no good, then I am going to trade them for 2 new 165SR15 tires.

Does anyone have an opinion of bias-ply? It is actually kind of cool to look at old tires. Of the bias-ply, I have the following brands: Goodyear All Season, Continental, Dunlop, Safety Star, and Firestone. All of which say either made in Sweden or Germany.

                Hello,

Unless you know for sure that the bias ply tires have been made within the last few years, which I doubt, PLEASE do not use them for regular use.

For all around driving pleasure and performance, a radial tire is far superior to a bias ply tire.

The radial tread allows for more stable and predicable cornering.

OK. Thanks alot. I was just checking t see if they were any good. They are 4-ply tubeless. I think that I will sell them, but I will keep the one as a spare and for show.

I know that bias-ply tires are still available. Why would people choose to buy them if they could get radials? Maybe it is all for show.

I'm in the UK but smaller tire shops will buy their stock in as required from different wholesalers. They will usually be willing to do the searching for you from places that the public can't normally access. Last time I was having a couple of tires fitted to my daily I asked about 165/15 and he clicked around a few of his wholesalers on the PC and found 3 different makes. Continental, Firestone and Nexxen if I remember correctly.
If he does the search for you, gets them in, and then does the fit and balance etc, you'll likely get a better deal than buying them in off the net and then getting them fitted at the shop.

..And what size "stock" 122 rims are you running these wide tires on?

              I have 5 that are marked 15 x 4.5, 5 others marked 15 x 4 1/2 and a set
              marked 15 x 4.

I seem to remember these guys telling us the wider 4.5 inch rims were on 122 estate wagons?

I am going to look at tires tomorrow. The people that I bought my Amazon from have a set of 5 tires with rims, but the tires may not be that good.

Locally, do you know of a place called Discount Tire? They can actually order the Kumho Power Star 758. They may be cheaper locally. Otherwise, you can buy them online: http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/kumho/165%252F80-15+kumho+power+star+758+87t+bsw.html#reviews

I am also going to check with Tire discounters.
