Has anyone made their own Overdrive Solenoid bypass plate ? 200 1993

I have changed the fluid in the trans and now it shifts better but no 4th still. I think the solenoid is junk from the neglected fliud. I have a solenoid off my parts car I can cut the groove in to make the bypass but wanted some tips if any of you have done it. I thought of IPDs kit but too cheap to spend the $39 when I can probably make it.

Just grind a channel between the two orifices on the existing solenoid. Blow it out, and reinstall with just the outer o-ring.

You should be able to cut a groove with a Dremel tool in the old solenoid and leave the inner O-ring off.

A search on Roger D. Scott should turn up a rather interesting write-up explaining how to use a Dremel tool (to do this).

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren’t doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

The only solenoid I ever "bypassed," I did by removing the plunger after gutting it. That's not my recommendation - it was just for fun: http://cleanflametrap.com/pub_autoOD/

It could be an option for someone who doesn't have access to a Dremel.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

That is the one I remember you doing. I have also seen pics of a solenoid with a channel cut into it.
I have never had a solenoid go bad but I do have a spare or two in my box of stuff.
Dan
