Which Bosch alternator? 120-130

OK, I decided to go with AC power.

So...I bought an Alternator Adapter Bracket from Planetman to mount a Bosch alternator on my 66 B18. Bosch kinda guy.

What year Volvo 240s have desired Bosch (55 or 70 Amp) alternator (75-83)? What Bosch part numbers?

I'm finding them with a least 2 different thicknesses of mounting ear tabs and 2 V belt pulley setups. Hoping to find ONE that "fits" & lines up right without additional mods. Should appear stock.

Eric recommended the later Internal VR type Bosch, but I forgot to ask what specific 240 year alternator body to go with.

Spot lamps, stereo, heater, wipers, halogens...time to put the ol generator to rest.

Thanks

    Which Bosch alternator? 120-130

    Hello,

The bracket I sold will only accept alternators that originally would bolt onto a late B18 or all B20 and B30 engines.

The only version I am aware of that has an internal regulator is a 35 amp recent addition to the available alternators for which I do not have any direct experience.

I believe Skandix sells these alternators.

What we recommended is either a Bosch AL77X, which is a 55 amp alternator, or a AL71X, which is a 35 amp alternator, both of which require an external voltage regulator.

We prefer to use a Bosch electronic voltage regulator

I also mentioned a custom made 100 amp alternator that my local Bosch authorized repair shop can make both in external or internally regulated versions.

Lastly, I spoke to you about the 230 amp Bosch alternator that we installed on a 122 with a large stereo that required customizing the alternator case, the fabrication of a double pulley system and the installation of 1/0(pronounced "1 OT") battery cables.

Thanks a lot for the clarification Eric.
I completely misunderstood what you told me (listened but obviously didn't hear).
This all makes MUCH more sense now, and will be easy to proceed with the results I was after.

I should have just asked directly.

NOW I can do some Happy Volvo Motoring.

      Finally got it,
      Walter

I have had very Happy Volvo Motoring after installing a AC Delco alternator with an adapter,,, I went with the ACDelco for one simple reason, I do a lot of back road driving in rural eastern North Carolina, if the alternator breaks down I can get the replacement in the crapiest service station of the smallest town in any rural county, it comes with an internal voltage regulator and I have had it for the last 5 years with NO problems,,,I am very close to having all the parts for installing an AC system, that will be the day to go to a ACDelco 100 amp...

Thanks, EXCELLENT point. I also drive a lot of back road, rural, "We ain't got no Fancy Bosch parts round here" roads. Availability!

Which side of block did you install alternator?

Please update as you go with A/C install.
          What evaporator are you installing?

I find "vintage" looking underdash units take 16"x12"x6" space.

          Thanks

            Which Bosch alternator? 120-130

The alternator is in the same place where the generator used to be,,,
I did not buy the special kit,, about 5 years ago I was having charging problems with the Bosch gen and took the car to a very good starter/generator shop in town,, old school owner that has seen everything,, he told me that I could go with new brushes and refurbish the brass bearings(I think) and it will be fine,, or "I can adapt you an Delco 55 amp alternator so you can have some good bright lights" and that was the convincing point,, before this I bought overseas on a trip a pair of 7" Cibie-Valeo H4 lights with Halogen bulbs and installed them and they were good,, after the alternator they were GREAT!!!

The AC project is going slow,, I have practically everything,, I did not go the vintage evaporator way for one reason,, I just could not find a decent unit to install,,,I saw some on Ebay and they looked like they just came back from a war.I got one of those new small universal underdash units locally from a shop the was going out of business and cost me 40 bucks,,I,ve got the double groove crank pulley and the tensioner bracket/pully and the complete bracket for the York compressor,,a friend of mine has this:

            http://www.britishac.com/air-conditioning/york-to-sanden-compressor-bracket-552.php

installed in a MGB Coupe for the last 4 years with no problems,,(I saw an ad in a volvo magazine of some guy that makes these brackets for the B-18 engine,, but they are quite pricey),,, I'm going to have all this done and completed this winter for next summer,,,I don't use that car at all during the hot southern summers,,, between Oct. and April it is a 50% daily driver....

              Thanks.
I have similar Hella driving/fog lamps mounted, but not wired yet. That was start of my "More Power" alternator plan. Planetman has helped me with alternator mount to be installed.

I too don't find a vintage A/C evaporator that isn't junk. Looking for a Universal type that will actually fit under 122 dash. Most I find are 16x12x5.5"...too big. Looking for the type you found. Does it have a manufacturer label? Can you measure dimensions?

I did get a nice original Frigiking badge off a junk yard unit to use. Starting with smallest, most insignificant part and building up system from there.

The underdash evaporator is very similar to this one:
