flexplate to torque converter torque specs

Hi,

Putting back together an automatic 740 Turbo. I know the flexplate to driveshaft flange bolts are 51 ft-pds, just need to know the torque specs between the flexplate and torque converter and the transmission flange and driveshaft. Thanks.

Ryan

Tight. You'd be lucky to get a torque wrench in there. I had to buzz weld a socket on a piece of flat bar, and used it many times on customers cars. I would think I drew them up at about 50 ft/lbs. in any event. It's a feel thing.

Tight is right, I put the bolts back in loosely and couldn't get my smallest ratchet in there, never mind the torque. I got the bolts off fairly small wrench and they weren't too tight so I can get them back in enough with that I'm sure. Will it throw things off if they're not at exactly the same torque?

What's most important is that they don't loosen of course. Being very short the "feel" as they stretch is changed - it's a very small amount of rotation to achieve. I used one socket on the crank bolt, and then tightened the convertor bolts while holding the other. You'll know when it's tight enough. Some deep offset box wrenches will get in there.
