Rear driver's side door 91 945se 900 1991

So, I registered my car on a friday and the following wednesday some moron decided it was a good idea to text on a two-lane, 55mph highway and cross into my lane. After debating about whether to keep the car or let them take it, I decided to keep it. Now I am looking for a replacement door.

I know the tail-end is the same as my '89 745, but will the doors from a 745 work? The door does function, so I'm not in a rush. I would like to wait until I find a gold replacement, but I don't want to get home to find the new door doesn't work.

At some point I may look at changing out the quarter-panel, and the bumper was replaced along with the tail light, trim, and gas cover.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Amy

the others are right, I'll add that the 91 940 SE is the tiny evolution of a 90 760, which then evolved into the 960. The wagon is mostly 740 in the rear, the front and interior of your car is most like the late 760.
The gold is my fave color, I had a 90 740 in gold. I think but could be wrong, that the 940 gold is not the same. Check the paint codes.
I don't think there is any substantial difference in the rear doors. Again though the Hollanders parts interchange at the JY will tell usually; I say usually as sometimes a very small difference will come up as 'not interchangeable', when in fact it looks and works fine. eg. my ac condenser, which is supposedly not interchangeable between turbo and not due to an air duct. Yes one way, but not the other, in actuality.

Well, there is no shortage of 9-series in yards, I would color match it. Just a bit of searching. There are many in the yards here (Fl). Remember the 91 SE is a 960 in body, not that that means anything for the door issue.

Dear Amy in MD,

Hope you're well. I'm sorry to hear about your encounter with an MIA (moron-in-action).

According to Volvo VADIS - the how-superseded dealer parts/service database - there are different part numbers for driver's doors for a 945 (1991) and a 745 (1990). I do not know if these differences matter. A salvage yard will have a Hollander manual, which shows interchangeability of parts.

To avoid electrical problems, the 945's wiring harness; motors for door lock, mirror, and window; and the master window/mirror switch should be transferred to the 745 door. That swap ensures plug-and-play compatibility.

If only the sheet metal shell of the 945's door has been damaged - i.e., if the door frame is not bent, kinked, etc. - then it should be possible to get from Volvo a replacement shell (Part #1355473, a "gusset panel", about $300). A body shop can pretty easily replace that piece, paint the door, and all's back to the way it was.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
