a/c fittings don't fit. 200 1990

So over the past couple of years I've rebuilt my a/c system with the conversion kit and blah, blah, blah.
And after having more than a few local a/c mechanics tell me they could not work with the high side shrader valve I decided to just get some R134a and stuff it in there through the compressor's new fitting. It was then that I found out that the R134a fitting which came with the conversion kit does not work with the R134a hose sold at my local NAPA.

Solution? How 'bout I go to my most friendly local auto parts store, buy an in-line R134a fitting, install it into the over the engine a/c hose and then stuff some R134a in there.
Any thoughts on that?

Yes you can install a low side fitting in the suction hose for charging. Its a #10 a603-3. Not sure if this fitting is compatable with original hose or if you have to make a whole new hose. Did you install the upgraded evaporator? I'd recommend you considering using a new parallel flow condensor from a 1993. More efficient than the tube and fin type.
