Either sounds like marbles in a tin can or water leak on the underside "weep hole".

No apparent noise but there a re a few water droplets on the front of the pump. Last changed it about 50,000 mi., ago.

I've never had the bearing seize in a water pump on a B230. I've had several leak past the shaft seal. For me, the GMB brand of water pumps has suffered more seal leaks than the Volvo or Hepu water pumps. I'm not installing another GMB water pump. The last one which failed earlier this year, was less than two years old.
