Can someone please tell me which of the wires of the trunk wire harness goes to the brake lights? Frusterating! The third brake light works fine but I can not find the wire for the regular lights. Does the wire to the third brake light continue on to the regular brake lights?

I bought a 240 with lots of little problems including the brake lights. They were buggered up bad.

Just FTHO it I'd check for 12V at the two wires like you want to but they will be fine. In the 1992 it is yellow for the right side and yellow-green on the left. Also looking at the WD, there is a ground on both sides. (I remember one ground.)

My bet is a bad flex board and if you are real lucky a weak ground prong in the socket.

In my 240 as purchased:

Bad, burned flex circuit board. Worn out contacts on the flex board.

There is a black and white socket for the brakes I think? One for the left side and one for the right. Anyway, aftermarket ones found were opposite. Replaced with good original ones found in a box of junk in the trunk.

Bad grounds on the some sockets fixed by prying them up a little.

A few bulbs with flattened out base contacts. Couldn't quite reach the bottom of the base.

Wrong over sized fuse in the fuse box.
