Saginaw P/S Hub Help! 200

Quick question: does anyone have any tips on how to remove the pulley hub on a Saginaw power steering pump with the two-piece pulley? I have a new p/s pump waiting, but I can't get the old pulley hub off the shaft! I am trying a 3-jaw gear puller, but all I have succeeded in doing is put a nice chamfer in the old pump shaft..,

Thanks,
Nick

Is there set screw that tightens the pulley to the shaft?

No-there isn't a set screw. The pulley hub is an interference fit with the pump shaft.

      Thanks,
      Nick

I looked at a saginaw pump off of a 85 model 240 that I have in my shop.
It appears that the hub of the pulley is threaded onto the pump shaft.
The center of the shaft has a hex opening that will accept a 3/8" allen head wrench.
This leads me to believe that the hex opening is used to hold the shaft stationary while the pulley is removed.
I can't tell whether the threads are right or left handed.

I've never removed a pulley from a power steering pump...never had to...so this is just a educated guess.
Logic says this is the way...but I'm no Spock.

        hope this helps
        steve

Well....two guesses and both of them wrong.

          Look at this.

Apparently you need a special type puller.
