142 drivers window won't roll all the way up 140-160

The window likes about 1/8" rolling completely up. I have taken the door card off and no amount of adjustment will correct the problem. The frame the window sets in has a tremendous amount of black windshield sealer on it. I'm thinking the insert for this frame is missing and the window is setting too deep in the frame to roll all the way up. Any ideas?

I had that same issue in my '72 142 but never resolved it, then I sold the car.

I did replace the window lift rail (it was all rotted) along with a fresh insert and the overall situation was better but it still had that small gap at the top! Must be something to do with the range of the larger gear on the window transmission being off. Mis-assembly some time in the past?

Good luck!

there seems to be some play in the mechanism at the top and it skips some as the window is lowered. Pretty convinced it is the regulator worn out.

I have had this issue too. The rails were looked OK. So I replaced the regulator and the window lift/elevator. The lift actually connects to the bottom of the window. The one on my car had significant rot. Once the parts were replaced, the issue was resolved.

IIRC, you can use a regulator from a 144 or 142. The regulator I got was from a 142 going into a 142, but I thought I read somewhere that the parts were interchangeable.

Have you taken the door panel off to review the condition of the rails, lift and regualator?

Good luck.
