760 head light issue 700 1990

I have a 1990 760 with a head light issue. when I start the car and turn the head light switch on the lights dont come on. I can flip the brights on then of and they will be on but for only about 20 seconds, so I have to drive around with the brights on. is this a relay issue or something else. thought I would ask before spending $140 on a relay.
thanks

Once, our '90 744 TI would stall when the high beams were used - I found the problem in the FAQ - bad grounds.

I had another electrical problems and discussed this with a Volvo tech.

He told me to clean any and all the connections in the car, add dielectric grease (he even gave me a tube of it!) and zip tie together any connectors that I could.

In the engine compartment, I did one connector a week so I could know where to look if I had a problem.

I never had another electrical problem.

Some odd headlight issues can be caused by dirty ground connections on the inner front fenders. Try cleaning them all on both sides up near the front.
