Replaced the AMM still not working

Hi there-
I posted last week about my car not starting unless I unplugged the AMM for about five minutes then plugged it back in. I was able to find a used AMM and replaced it yesterday. During the switch I noticed oil in the tube leading to the intake and cleaned it out. When I put everything back together the problem was the same- it will only run if it is unplugged and warms up for a few minutes. Any ideas on what is going on? The oil?

Having not read previous post, and not knowing year or model I would not spend much time trying to diagnose the problem. Oil in the air intake is not uncommon is it a turbo car? Do you know that the replacement AMM is in good working condition? Try your old AMM in a good running car b4 discarding, perhaps check temp sensor.

It is a 1988 240DL not a turbo.

Man,

You are making my mouth water! These are the kind of problems that make people throw cars away, so they can owe the bank for a car that runs on parts made in China.

Yeah, you need to fix the car. Unfortunately, there is no fix. You have to find out why the engine is not running; there is no one part you can buy to tell you this. So get at it! Find out why the engine won't run.

You need the correct fuel mixture, that is a wonderful thing. If you don't keep your car in tune, it doesn't run! Just look at all the breakdowns and the people who can't even get to Wal-mart. Maybe they forgot to add engine oil. Maybe they were too lazy to add coolant and fried the engine. Maybe they didn't know how to. Maybe you are one of those people. I can't tell you anything, because you haven't told me anything.

Tell us more information!

Go through basics, (compression, spark, vacuum leaks) and report back.

I cannot be positive but I ordered it from a guy who tested it out beforehand so I am pretty sure it works. I also suspect the old one works as well. It is a 1988 240 DL
