Consumer Reports' 2011 Car Reliability Survey: Volvo Best Among Euros

Consumer Reports' 2011 Annual Car Reliability Survey:

http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2011/10/consumer-reports-2011-annual-car-reliability-survey-ford-drops-chrysler-rises-scion-leads.html

"Among European brands, Volvo ranked the highest at 10th overall. It was helped by the redesigned S60, which was above average in its first year."

Heard this on the radio two days ago. Keeps my hope alive for Volvo Cars AB.

However, I'm RWD Volvo 240 bound maybe forever.

Thanks,

Dud.

Consumer Reports' 2011 Car Reliability Survey: Volvo Best Among Euros

I've always wanted to see the crystal ball that Consumer Reports uses to predict the reliability of a car that's barely been on the road for a year. Heck, they haven't even had a chance to break down yet.

It would be interesting to look back at some 15 year old Consumer Reports publications and see what cars they were telling people to buy - vs - how well those cars have actually done.

I'd guess just a matter of a library that offers back issues of Consumer Reports for research.

Agreed, it would be nice to know the methodology they use. I don't know.

Check CR's used car ratings of older models. It's in their annual auto issue. At least part of their evaluation is based on how the older cars of a particular model hold up. When that model is replaced they start fresh. As well they should....:)

If I recall correctly, the newer Volvo's rating is based on the reliablity of the 2005 to present models.
