Is replacing the motor the only fix?

No.

I don't know if you own a 940 or 960. Doesn't matter though, if it is setup like my 850 you can simply pull the power plug for the motor. On my 850 it was on the side of the radiator nearest the headlight.

Hi Haroldsowner,

Please describe the symptoms. What side headlight wiper? Right or left? Compare and contrast symptoms between the good and bad wiper motor.

Please provide more information and I'm sure other Volvo 900/90-series drivin' owners with headlight wipers will respond (with more questions and answers).

You may wish to search the brickboard for threads containing this information. Alternatively, you can try the UK Volvo enthusiast sites as headlight wipers are more common there.
