Upper starter mount bolt 200 1989

Ok...Long story short the tranny cooler mixed the peanut butter with the chocolate....Flushed tranny w/ 10 gallons of fluid to no avail....

Tranny Change: I'm almost ready to pull it all out....however the upper starter bolt will not come out because it hits the body.

Question is: Can this bolt be pulled the rest of the way out as the tranny is being dropped?

After all the stuff I have pulled off to have this last bolt holding me up is maddening.... My neck and arms are close to falling off right now...

Thanks in advance BB'ers

yes, just pull the bolt with the transmission or pull it separately as you drop the trans.

Or dent the sheetmetal as the other person suggested.

With my Manual Trani I do not have this issue so I'm just throwing this out there. Would you get the room you need if you jacked one side or the other side of the engine to rotate it a bit?

Also if you take the Trani Crossmember out will 'hanging' the tailshaft give you the room you need?

Hi:

Yes, this is possible!

I have had to do this about 3 or 4 times, when changing the starter or replacing the automatic transmission dipstick tube.

I remember using a long flathead screwdriver to tap the bolt into the firewall, then, it would have just enough room to wiggle out.

I think I also used a crowbar to bend the firewall in just a little bit, to create more room.

Good luck, this is one the little frustrating 240 issues that must be overcome, but it can be done.

Be sure to report back, and let us know how you resolved this issue

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 318,180 miles, will she make it to 400K ?? >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
