Hello,
If you have a late B18 block or any B20, they already have a location to bolt a Bosch alternator directly to the engine, so no mounting bracket is required.
We like the Bosch alternators because the wiring is similar to the generator and it is easy to connect the warning light on the dash.
55 amp alternators are easily available and we prefer the rebuilt alternators right from Bosch as the aftermarket rebuilds tend to be not as reliable.
An external voltage regulator is still required and we prefer the Bosch electronic voltage regulator, although we can have an aftermarket electronic voltage regulator attached directly to the alternator, thus making it a 2 wire alternator.
1 wire to the battery either directly or via the starter, and 1 wire to the light.
Even without an adapter bracket, a proper Bosch 55 amp alternator conversion will cost more for parts, but in our experience, the Bosch alternators are more reliable than cheaper Delco alternators.
We have Bosch alternators modified to 100 amp peak/80 amp continuous, but they are pricey and do not require a double groove pulley.
Over 100 amps requires a double groove pulley system to handle the increased horsepower requirements.
And we have installed a custom built 230 amp alternator on a Bosch Kjet(CIS) injected B20 in a 1967 122 with a lot of stereo.
We had to put together a double groove pulley system for this car and we did not use any of the A/C crank pulleys as they have 2 different size pulley grooves.
