I just finished replacing the exhaust system on my 'new' 944t since there was absolutely no boost and the turbo checked out ok. To my surprise, the culprit was not a blocked cat at all. Turns out the internals of the resonator had rotted out, and the dampening material and metal bits had clogged it right up.

Took it out for a drive, and WOW! Crazy boost now. Car only has 70k on it, and the turbo kicks like new. The problem is, when I really floor it, the boost gauge maxes all the way to the right, and there is a shudder as the engine momentarily cuts out. I'm assuming this is the overboost cutout switch doing its work?

Which means I need to back off the boost somehow. Is this fairly simple by adjusting the wastgate, or might this excessive power be indicative of some kind of problem?

lh2.4 has a built in 'fuel cut' at higher revs. This is one of the primary reasons some 'chip' the ECU.

if you have the stock volvo setup then maybe the small hose from the turbo to the compressor has fallen off or rotted out.
maybe the wastegate actuator is shot and not opening the wastegate.
probably one or the other.

The small hose looks fine, I'll check the actuator tomorrow. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction; I've never had any trouble with my other turbo car, so this is all new to me...
