Passenger's carpet saturated with transmission fluid??? 200

Been real hot here in Ohio. Plenty of fluid in the transmission. I looked quickly underneath but did not see anything unusual.

Trans fluid and coolant could be mixing in the radiator and leaking out through the heater core? Any signs of this in the coolant or trans fluid?

Thanks for suggestions.
I am pretty sure it is ATF. I will read what Bently has to say, lift her up on Saturday, and see what's going on. Right now, I am soaking up the ATF with 6 layer of paper towel, weighed down with 2 bricks. I refresh the paper towels every day. The ATF keeps coming, but slowly.
I will post what I find out. Thanks again.

OK.
Passenger side of the pan was obviously leaking. Front bolt on that side was in place but sheered off. Got half a turn on a few of the other bolts. Not sure how the ATF got into the cabin, but it did!!
So I will drop the pan and see if I can back out the broken bolt with vice grips or a small "ease out". Probably looking at the original gasket here. I bought the car two years ago and have not yet had a chance to do this job. I will make time to do it now.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Just a thought: they make red coolant now. I assume you would know if you put red coolant in the car, but I just can't think of any way to get ATF inside the cabin that wouldn't manifest as transmission problems.

Are you absolutely sure it is not either coolant mixed with 20 years of carpet goo or AC condensate overflow (water) mixed with condensate drain funk and carpet goo?

Windows that fog up in warm weather, that sickly sweet smell and wet passengers carpets are common signs of failed heater valve or heater core.

Hello,

The automatic transmission cooler lines often leak in that area. They are under the car on the right side of the chassis. This may be the source of your problem.

Yeah, but the assumption is the OP would tell us if the floor was Flintstoned. Interesting post. Have not seen one like it.

Agree with Art, interesting. I have had a VW brake line inside cabin rust out and saturate the carpet and pad which we first thought was coolant. We were misled as the dual cylinder brakes still had enough stopping power and only a little fluid went through the hole each appliction.

That was kind of my thought which was why I dismissed the ATF so readily...probably a poor choice to assume any such thing.

Maybe it's blood. Have you had any dismembered passengers ride with you lately?
