New Official Factory Manuals on DVD at FCP 700

This looks too good to be true if I understand it correctly. All the 740 manuals and parts on one DVD:
FCP 740 DVD

DVD
Someone go first and let us know if this is as good as it sounds.

VCOA was selling the same product recently, and I bought the 200 and 900 series DVD's from them. Very nice. They are excellent quality scans of the green books, and are arranged by groups just like the greenbooks. FAR superior image quality to the DVD's Volvo was selling a few years ago.

The problems:
-proprietary interface which is badly laid out and unpleasant to use.
-single-license item, additional licenses are NOT available for purchase. This means you install it on one computer and it will ONLY play on that computer. I traded emails with OTP Customer Service, they seemed completely uninterested in my feedback.

I'm glad I have them, they are a good if cumbersome resource. But I will never buy another digital manual prepared by the OTP clowns if I can avoid it. Usability is destroyed in the effort to prevent copyright infringement.

Can the files on the disc not just be manipulated in order to access the material without loading software?

Did some more homework. The way they tie down the files is through a file they email to the purchaser in order for the LockLizard software to allow you to view the *.PDC files (locked up *.PDF files). Once you are able to access these, I am very confident that you could make an "unsecured backup copy" to keep in the trunk of your car, or on a major flash drive or something like that... *wink wink*

I'd be willing to invest with a couple other people if they were interested.

http://www.skandix.de/en/documents/repair-instructions/original-technical-publications-dvd/1259/ <--- this explains the security process

http://www.ehow.com/how_6604936_convert-_pdc-_pdf.html <--- simple explanation of duplication.

I'm betting it would be a time consuming process, but more than likely worth it.

Hmm, that's worth looking into. I was able to bypass the security on the old Volvo DVDs by using a "print to PDF" program like PaperPort. But the resulting quality was a step down from the already lousy scans. Have not tried that on these. Would LOVE to have the basic PDF's on my laptop so I can use them at the car. Using these new DVD's at the car is a problem now, because the laptop can't get my WiFi signal when I'm in the driveway.

Lock lizard really is a pain in the ass.

I've attempted to email you via BrickBoard twice, receiving message failures both times. Contact me through my BrickBoard email, and I can discuss some solutions.

"laptop can't get my WiFi signal when I'm in the driveway."

Well you know the solution then...and your car would appreciate being treated like a member of the family!

I was looking st the 240 version over my morning coffee. Anyone know if these are just electronic copies (hopefully OCR .pdf's or similar) of the original green books and supplements?
