Uh oh - please honk if parts fall off.....seriously!
I'm looking for the drivers door trim piece (located just below the door handle) for a 92 240 wagon, it's black with no chrome strip. Having a hard time finding it - anybody have one or know where I can check? Thanks!
PS I don't want to go the IPD adhesive strip route unless I have to.....

A friend who is between jobs and waiting on a major one, is doing custom JY part orders for the next few months. I know him, he's very good mechanically and honest, ships well and fast. He ships all over the US and Europe.
Let me know if you want to get in touch; my email,

Hi,

I would check http://www.vandsautodismantlers.com/

I don't have any experience with them but if no one offers up anything that they have available either in their own stash or a yard close by I would give them a call.

Someday I will probably be in your same position because we have a 92 245 and I dread that all black trim due to it's scarce availability.

Thanks Travis, I've used them before too, but they don't have any of the all black type. It's no surprise that this happend to the Mrs's brick;
Me: "What happened to the door trim"
Mrs: "What door trim?"
Me: "ARRRRRRGH" pounds head against nearest wall, fade to black......

I would have stopped in the middle of I-95 in rush hour at night and flagged down all the semi's following me so I could run out there and pick it off the pavement......maybe I should safety chain the others pieces in place too....

In the meantime - anybody have any ideas?

The same thing recently happened to me. Luckily she was driving my 90 244.

Maybe try this database:

I think I may have it via a couple of Connecticut Craigslist listings.

Try the links below - you'll find pulled doors (and their associated parts) from these listings (run through all the pictures in each of the postings).

thanks for the links and ideas, I'm on the car parts link now, craigs list plan b and the painted chrome route is plan C
Thanks!
P.S. as these cars get older, I wonder if there's enough interest out there to make it worth the $ to make parts that are no longer in stock - center consoles, trim stuff, etc. Probably not an easy task, but with so many bricks having many interchangeable parts I'm hoping somebody gives it a go.

Thanks for the tip TWilliams
I called Voluparts and they had a piece in stock! Darth Vader Black too!

Ok, now I'm thinking maybe safety chains and/or mini gps units for the exterior trim?

SEM paints makes a product called "texture coat" in an aerosol can. It isn't cheap (~$20 a can) but covers a lot of area, is designed to work on plastic or metal without primer, holds up to exterior use, and looks pretty darn close to OE textured coatings. You top coat it with pretty much any paint.

If I had to match the black trim, I would get a complete set of chrome trim dirt cheap, then refinish with SEM texture coat and satin black paint. You could probably even match the original black trim closely with some practice.

It doesn't make sense to pay a premium for something that was only made in very limited quantities just because it is black. Likewise with the door handles. Why a set of black door handles sells for 5 times what the chrome ones do is beyond my comprehension.
