Independent Volvo Shop in Madison, WI 900

Hi,
Our daughter is moving to Madison. She currently drives our 92 940 and am trying to decide whether to send it with her or not. Any recommendations for independent shops there? Googling, I found a shop called something like Phoenix Motors (or Auto repair) that looked interesting.

And part of me wants to talk her out of taking the car and keeping it for myself- it is a really nice 940 with 145k miles......

Thanks!
Lyle

Don't know any shops in Madison as I'm no where near there, but as I'm sure you know, the car is easy to fix by competent, non chain, mechanics. If you can find one that will work with you, when needed, you should be OK. I'm going thru the same now as my daughter at college will eventually ask for the 93 945 she drives when home. Try to go thru the straightforward stuff before she goes, you know, brakes, tune up, stuff that stops you cold, like the crank postion sensor. Good luck. Mike

That's a great point, Mike. When I do run into something that I don't want to tear into (like the rear main seal), I've generally use an independent in a small town near here who isn't a Volvo specialist, just a great mechnic. I occasionally see tractors in his shop.... Thanks!

I went through the same process when both my daughters took their 940s off to college. Like Mike said, do the obvious. Replace the belts and hoses. Go ahead and replace the battery (cheap insurance) and replace the radiator and water pump if they're more than 8 years old. I made an "emergency" bag with extra belts/ hoses/ crank sensor , various relays/fuses and a set of jumper cables. Both cars performed flawlessly.
