I bought it! 900 1993

I am like a kid at Christmas! I bought the 1993 940 I was looking at. Here is the thread:

http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1551491/happy_new_year_melets_hope_one_goes_better.html

And here is the listing for the car:

http://www.premiummotorsinc.com/1993_Volvo_940%20Series_169397733.veh

I was everything I hoped with only minor things in need of attention:

Tailgate trim rattle (no surprise)
Bulbs not illumitaed in the handbrake console (shifter and heated seats)
Valve cover gasket leak (pointed out by others)
Bad electric ant (expected)

Things I did not expect:

Excellent aftermarket stereo and speakers
Brand new tires
Heated mirrors that might actually work!

Now what to do with the Dog Car?

Super car! Good for you. For the antenna, try extending it, wiping all the dirt off with alcohol on a rag, and lubing with silicone spray. It should then retract all the way.

Dog car? I think you mean the old car. This one is a beauty; extremely good looking car. Bosch? I don't know how late Regina was used.

I have dog gates for sale but for 92>
I do have a couple of cargo covers in tan, and can get an antenna for it also. And I have a turn sig if you need one.

The Dog Car is the name my wife gave me 90 244 beater. It was bought to be a be an experiment in cheap living through Volvo so I have a addressed only the urgent mechanical issues...It hauls our +200#'s of mostly double coat, long haired posse around so it looks and occasionally smells a bit like a kennel. I told my wife I would keep it at least until spring and this car proves to be as reliable as I expect. Then, who knows.

I will be looking for a gate but as hinted, '93-up is a somehow different.

Not real interested in the cargo cover.

Need a driver's side turn signal lens but I guessing it is the signal as a unit only. Gonna hit my local PnP today and if they do not have one, will contact you.

I am tempted to sell the third seat as I will be removing it anyway. I do not see myself ever selling the car but how much value does the third row actual add?

Looks like a sweet car. You should get many more good years out that ride. Does it drive as well as it looks in the photos?

The stuff is expensive, but I bought Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner from IPD. It has done a great job maintaining my leather interior. Course the original owner maintained it well too. Would never know it's 18 years old. A few cracks in the driver's seat, no tears whatsoever, all original and it looks like it is 5 years old.

I think the third seat adds a little value if you are transporting kids. Otherwise probably not. Doesn't the third seat fold away under the trunk floor? It does on my 850. I sometimes forget I even have one...:)

I plan to use one of the suggested leather conditioners but I also plan to use sheepskins most of the year.

Yeah, the third seat folds away but I love that lockable compartment it takes up so the seat will come out.

Like I said, guy would not budge much on the price and I do not blame him. It does drive as nice as it looks. It has the floaty character that all the 7/9's I have drive have but that was to be expected. I think the rear springs might be overload/HD springs which is fine with me.

Noticed a minor clunk on the passenger side front over the worst pothole that I intentionally hit. Probably a bushing.

Frequently that clunk is the conical bushings on the diagonal arm, the control arm Stay. Some go with poly for that.

I use Lexol also and think it does help the seats live a lot longer. Some who have a lot more experience than I, say that Leatherique is even better.

Seat comment; If the car is taken to an upholsterer it's expensive; if you take the seat out and take the covers off and bring them to someone who can sew heavy material, a great cost savings can be realized. Or, just swap in pass side covers, which is not too hard.

Lens; they are not available separately. I recommend re-gluing around the edges as this is where they fail and fall off.

Gate; 93 up back seat is higher, so the gate is shorter by 1 1/2" or so. That's the only diff, and I think with minor fudging the older one can work but I haven't tried it.

I bet you are, like a kid at Christmas. Congratulations.

Couple of firsts for me. External antenna but I never paid too much attention. Pulse air in a 1993 is a first for me. It seems standard for years 94 and 95. With two pulse air systems in the driveway plus my son's, I only had to replace one pulse canister and one rubber boot.

The car looks showroom new, near impossible anymore. I have a white wagon and added 16" Hydra wheels. No other options.

I see you reviewing your check list on defensive driving for accident avoidance and seeking out all those no ding zone parking spots. And may I recommend Leatherique.

Tom

It is not truly showroom new but whoever owned it cared for it obsessively. the reason the seats look so good is that they had the worn portions replaced professionally.

Congratulations. Enjoy, looks like a real gem. Wait till you see the difference the 1041 rear axle makes in the snow. "Real 2 wheel peel"! Oh and don't worry about the Pulsed Air system. I have a 94 and a 95 with it. When it works it lowers emissions, when it fails(in the modes I have witnessed) it does not set a check engine light nor increase emissions to the point of failing. I have not had an EGR related failure on any of the Red Block Volvos I have owned either, pretty reliable system.
