fabricated wooden center console 200

Has anyone ever crafted their own center console out of wood? If so does anyone have any pictures? Give me some ideas!

Not so much a center console but someone here made an emergency brake console years ago. It was eons ago when I first joined the board.

That being said, if you keep the kick panels in the passenger and driver footwell, it should be pretty simple. There are two metal vertical stays behind the center section of the center console to screw to.

Can't find it in a search so it is ANCIENT! In short, you have to pattern the existing console. In my world of "pound it to fit, paint it to match" I would use MDF. After you can choose to paint or veneer. MDF is infinitely machinable and as stable as it comes. 3/8" is not stocked at your big box but it readily available.

I found very thin hardwood at home depot. My console is broken and ruined I am going to have to do some guess work at fabricating the back and top. I am going to make it out of cardboard first and modify till it fits and use that as a template. I have a tan interior and will stain the wood minwax golden pecan. I will post pictures!

i use templates for about everything from tile work around curved showers to heavily sloped ceilings in old houses.

Can I suggests, after you make the cardboard template make a working template from the same thickness of masonite as your final material loosely assembles with either hot glue or similar. Drive with it for a while before cutting real wood. A router and a pattern-maker's bit are you friend at that point.
