Oil Change 200 1992

Inspired by Art Benstein. The remedy for sinking front ends even though I can still squeeze under. I spread sand over wet varnish the top and bottom of the ramps to grip the tire and the concrete but it took several tries this time because the sand is worn off on the bottom and tire was pushing the ramp forward. The sharp angle of the incline plane didn't help either. I have some old bike tubes that will be glued to the bottom for traction. What's nice is if you do go over the ramps, no harm, no foul. I swear I never did.

Magnetic drain plug after soaking in gasoline. Looks like too much ring fuzz after 2.5K and 16 months. Hey, its a town car. Mobil 1 is still cleaning up the oil pan sludge.

I measured the total length of the threads using the depth gauge end and was coming up with a 5 thousands difference between the two. I should have measured the thread outside diameter. Next time.

Bad news, the nice chrome plating is now off. Good news, the plating is magnetic.

I use those plastic Rhino ramps they sell in auto parts store. The two sets of ramps I have are rated for 8,000 and 12,000 pounds.

Hello CB. There has to be something I could do with the stuff. Hand warmer filings?

It is the most I ever saw in an old Volvo. It will be a year before I change oil in the car again. Keep in mind, there are some larger chrome plating flakes sitting against the magnet and cleaning it in gas puffs up the fuzz is like blow dried head of hair. You can see a chunk of chrome at 7:00 to 9:00 (or near side just left of center to left). 175k miles of dino oil, and who know how often. I still think its oil pan sludge fuzz.

It sure is ALOT of metal. I use them in both 240s 87 (140K) and 88 (180K)never seen anything like that using only dino oil and 3k between changes. Does bring back distant memories of the 140 series when the timing gear would start to break down and there would be chunks of it the oil catch pan. It was just letting you know it was time to change the gear!!!

Jacks are great but for an oil change? You also need jack stands with a jack, align, lower, re-align lower. Ramps are about 5 years old, with many oil changes between me and the only other one in the hood that changes oil in the drive way. It's is a dying art.

Tom,
Not much room for error with those ramps!! Luckily I can still squeeze under with the 14 inch steelies. With the 16 inch Hydras in the summer its a breeze. I wouldnt dare let one of those oil change engineers change my oil!!

Joe, Joe, Joe, aren'ts the outside diameters suppose to be same betwixt 16" Hydras and 14's? Speedo meter accuracy and that? Therefore, no difference in the height, unless.

Car sits up taller as well very noticeable when getting in. Noticeably taller when the tires are sitting side by side. And yes the speedo will be off as well.

Thanks, that explains the difference.

A fiend's wife's "boxie" car, Scion or equal is so low, he can barely get the ramps under the front of the car. Jacking? He can only find plastic underneath.

Tom
