780 trunk shocks. Can I use 740 or 940 sedan trunk shocks? 700 1988

Are the trunk shocks (the ones that hold up the trunk lid), specific to the 780 model (as many of the parts are), or can I use trunk shocks from a 7 or 9 series sedan?

Mine have given up the ghost, and if I ever get that darn trunk open again (cable broke first, then the glove box button failed), I'd like to not have to prop it open with a big stick. Kind of dilutes the luxury look of a 780 to use a stick...

Well, I guess you could monkey around with this but why not just go to Amazon and search 780 hatch struts. Anyway, that is what I did for the 780. I am sure each strut is designed to balance a trunk of particular weight so why try to fudge it.

740 will work, they handle a heavier trunk lid - makes the 780 trunk lid pop right open. But first - figure out the electrical, make certain it isn't the solenoid in the trunk. I have a complete door to trunk cable setup with electric solenoid - I may have it available if the new owner of my Coupe wants the parts included or not.

Easiest way to find out is go to FCP and see if the stock number is the same for both cars. I get mine there and they fit. The cable is nothing but a bicycle cable availible at bike shops and repair is similar to that of a bike. The glove box button problem is probably a fuse.

7's fit, I don't know about 9's but think they're different.
