Replacing the steering rack due to an accident...centered the steering wheel,tied it off to prevent movement, removed old rack, ready to put in new, but how do you tell if replacement rack is centered?...It appears there is a flat on the shaft from the rack to the u-joint and it does not appear to be in the same spot as the old rack?..How to tell if replacement rack is "centered" ?

I just get it close as I can without sweating it too much, your alignment shop will take it from there. Go to good shop and you'll be fine.
