idle air control valve ( IACV) 900

IACV --help--if I put 12v to it- what should happen? Run like a motor or click ? does that "door" cycle or flutter? I can only measure 2.9v while the motor is running the green two wire connector- is this correct- I see the info about cleaning etc- but not much on how it works.

thanks in advance- AJ

idle air control valve ( IACV) 900

What vintage of 900 is it ? I have a 1993 940 with Regina fuel system. The car sometimes stalled unexpectedly and reported a 2-2-3 code for signal missing to IAC valve.

I removed the IAC valve and tested with a variable power supply. Increasing voltage causes the internal cylinder to move. 2.9v would (correctly) mean the valve is partially open. If your IAC valve looks dirty it should be safe to remove it and clean it with throttle body cleaner.

In my case the problem was the electrical connector. Cleaning the 2 contacts in the IAC valve and on the mating wire harness connector eliminated the stalling problem.

Make sure all the hoses to the IAC valve are in good condition with no splits at the ends. Even a small leak can affect the idle quality.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks Mike-

my car is a 1995- non turbo- 300k. I disconnected the battery, cleared the codes and ran the OBD tests- this car has the self testing system. No codes just1-1-1, and when the test for the IAC runs, I can now hear it click. So now the car idle correctly - not sure if the cleaning - not really that dirty- or just plugging and unplugging connectors was the root cause. No codes- idle is pretty low- not sure what causes that. But it doesnt pulse from 1200- 1800 rpm once warm.

Thanks for your help.
