Michelin Defender? vs Harmony? 200

I need to buy tires very soon. I've decided to stay with my 14" steel rims. I thought I might try out some Michelin Harmony's since they seem to be very popular on the BB, but it seems they have been replaced by Michelin Defenders. There doesn't seem to be much discussion regarding Defenders on the BB... anyone care to talk about how they are different than the Harmony's?

I currently run the stock 185/70 R14, but if I understand correctly from previous posts I might do better by going to the 195/70's.

For my 1992 240 sedan, central PA, under 10K/year.

Thanks,
Keith

The defender seems to be a great tire from what I have read. I have also read good reviews on the Yokohama Avid Touring tire. People give it good reviews on tire rack. It is made in America while I believe the defender is made in either Mexico or Canada, IIRC. I believe a set of four will run about 260 compared to 390 for the Michelins.

Disountiredirect.com had better prices than the tirerack and free shipping the last time I bought tires.

Harmony appears to have been discontinued and the Defender is a new model.

I thought the Harmony was fine and had several sets.

I just ordered a set of Defenders from Tire Rack and they were delivered less than 24 hours after placing the order!.

If you have a sedan stick with 185 x 70 to keep the speedo correct.

actually, when I put the 195's on my sedan, he Speedo became closer to Real speed at the 50-70 MPH range(according to GPS).
with the stock 185's my speedo was always about 2 MPH faster then I was actually going.

Same here. Both odometer and speed readings on my 83 are closer to reality with the 195/70-14 tires. I also like the look - IMO, they fill the wheel wells to a better proportion.

I can't speak as to the difference in the 2 styles of tires, but i bought a set of Harmonys 195/70 X 14s for our '89 wagon about 2 years ago and they are holding up very well. I would buy them again when the time comes.

You also check tirerack.com if they sell them & see anyone has reviewed them.
