I'm about to install the head after ring job. Top of gasket is not marked. No thickness dimension mark. There are a couple of numbers stamped into one side - "177 352" & "E2" & and Elring logo. I'm assuming this side goes up, but....

Based on Phil's rec, no copper coat - no nothing.

Logo Up. Does the gasket have a coating of any kind? I love Silverfrost for the head, sump & manifold gaskets.

standard stock Elring gasket. gasket material with a semi gloss finish.

If there is a joining bridge showing between the two middle holes, that should be on one side only and is the top face. At least, that's the case with the one I've just looked at. It wasn't an Elring.
