Cluster gauges dying 1 by 1, or....? 700 1990

Hey everybody. I've got a 90 740T with 297K miles on it (woot woot!).

About 5 years ago, the fuel gauge kept sticking and finally died (but tests good with a 68-ohm resistor), then about 3 years ago, the temp gauge started twitching and reading erratically like its voltage regulator is failed. A few days ago, I got in the car, started it up, and the voltmeter stayed pegged as though the car was off until I gave the hood built into the dash over cluster a nice whack.

For a while, that whack would get the temp gauge to work properly. I never tried it with the fuel gauge.

Do 740 clusters die? Why? Could this be related to something else? I honestly haven't had it screwed in for months because of the temp gauge and my attempts at diagnosing it or seeing if I can replace it.

I want to get a calibrated real-time temp gauge to replace the failed one at any rate. Does anybody know of one that would fit in the cluster that gives an actual temp readout either analog or digital?

Cheers

I may have a good cluster for your car. Got it as a spare for my 90 NA so no turbo gauge but I think that will swap over.
