1990 240 DL

While serching for a stainless steel catalytic converter, I ran across this ebay ad -

Seems like a great price, but from a supplier in Canada, thus the skeptic in me.

No, no testing for emissions in NH

Yes, $100-$110 is average price for cats. Go with Magnaflow for that price, the warranty is better for same price 5 years/50k miles

Bosal is what the dealer will sell you, also with a 5 yr warranty. Stainless steel? NO not now not ever.

About $100 is the going rate for an aftermarket direct replacement cat.

Try RockAuto. They have a Walker cat for well under $100 right now.

I should also note that list price for a "genuine Volvo" cat is something like $800, unless you find the strangely priced $120 OE Volvo cat for cars with EGR. There is some question as to whether that cat will even fit a non-egr exhaust system, let alone whether the internals are the same (the price would suggest no).

Aftermarket cats are ALL the same. This is THE LAW:

"Any converter which meets EPA requirements must be properly labeled and warranted to meed Federal durability and performance standards. New aftermarket converters are required to have a 5 year/50,000 mile warranty on the converter shell and end pipes."

No manufacturer of aftermarket replacements is going to make a catalytic converter designed to last any less - OR ANY MORE - than 5 years. The precious metals in the cat are more expensive than gold - they're not using more than they have to.

Stainless steel doesn't matter. The cheaper alloys of stainless steel will last no longer than high quality "aluminized" steel.

my 1993 240 has a spin flange. the picture seems to be a fixed flange. just be careful when ordering
