dome light sensor?? S90-V90

I noticed that the dome light in my "new" 98 S90 has a small hole in the forward end, and when I pulled the light assembly down, I noticed a hollow white tube going up into the overhead that was not electrical.

Is that some kind of ambient light sensor, or a temperature sensor? The s90's owner's manual makes no mention of it.

I'm still troubleshooting why the dome light fails to come on when the doors are opened ......

never mind :) it's a temp sensor for the climate control
