The OBD2 reader I bought can't access the SRS codes (the SRS light is on)

If I go to AutoZone (or the like), will their OBD reader possibly be able to read the SRS codes - or is it something Volvo has managed to make a dealer-only read?

I really don't want to do the "disconnect the battery/wait 30 minutes/reconnect the battery/repeat 2 more times" routine, rather find out why the light is on

For those with a lap top or Bluetooth phone even(?), ELM327 can totally diagnose your Volvo problems. It can, with some basic tricks, read the stored mileage, reset SRS and ABS, diagnose seat errors and electronic climate control.

The ELM327 is inexpensive < $20 on various web sites. There is a terrific write up on this web site:

However, Total Car Diagnostics, the outfit linked in the "jonesrh.info" link you gave, said their TOAD program for ELM327 readers does not go deeply enough into an S90's codes to access SRS. Their Autocom reader, $177 does, they said in an e-mail.

I wonder if any other ELM327 software can access the SRS system in an S90

I was going for CHEAP rather than a quality VOL-FCR that will diagnose the operating system for the Volvo lineup. A VOL-FCR will be able to find codes for just about any year and model, but I no longer have a code book that translates Volvo specific codes.

A good dealer should read the codes and let you know what is wrong. Unfortunately, most will not do this because they don't want to pay their mechanics for a 5 minute job. To hell with loyal customers, they will just charge an hour's labor and require an appointment 3 days in advance.
