Driveshaft balance 200

So my rear u-joint began to seize on my DD 245 so I swapped the whole DS from one of my project cars. I still get a slight vibration from the saft, whats the best way to get rid of this? Do I have to pull the flanges and resurface them?

When you say "the whole drive shaft" do you mean just the rear section or both parts? Front and rears are balanced together, so it's pot luck if you just swap one part. Plus one to checking the phasing.

If you leap to 14:40 of this video you will see the method of assuring balanced assembly. He even weighs the hardware at the end.

The first thing would be to make sure the driveshaft halves are in phase with each other. A multi-section driveshaft should have the very first yoke (the the one bolted to the output flange on your trans) and the very last yoke (the one bolted to the diff flange) align as if there were a u-joint attaching them (that is- at 90 degrees to each other). That leaves the rear section with two possible correct visual alignments--but only one of those is the actual balanced alignment. A driveshaft from a parts car/project car has been on and off how many times? :-) -- Dave

Ok, that makes sense, I'll have to see if they are aligned properly.

On another note, what spec should the yoke bolts be torqued down to?

"On another note, what spec should the yoke bolts be torqued down to?" I don't know that any specific torque is needed. They need to be TIGHT. A pair of six inch wrenches will not do it. You need good fitting wrenches about 8-10 inches in length and then squeeze them together as tight as you can make them. -- Dave
