Source of gas smell 200

I should know what this part is but I don't. It is located on the fuel return line on my 1983/242/B21ft. It maybe the source of the gas smell. Any help identifying this part would be appreciated.

Thanks

Picture Shows the Rollover Valve 200

The object depicted in your photo is the rollover valve. It is there in case the car turns over in an accident and prevents the loss of fuel through the vent line.

Hard to tell from the photo, but you either need to replace the valve (which is plastic) or the hoses on either side, or both.

I've had leaks show up in these hoses on two of my cars (the valves themselves were not the problem). The leaks were found during the portion of the California smog testing which checks the integrity of the fuel evaporative system.

Wow! That's good to know. The learning process continues for me on these cars. Thanks!

I'll second that Wow! good to know. I've always seen that part but never gave it a second thought -- guess 'cause it's mostly trouble free. When I worked for a Jaguar dealer in the early '80s if an XJ6 got towed in for "no start" the first place to look was a "rollover switch" for the fuel pump in the trunk. They would get tripped for some reason - and then needed to be reset manually. -- Dave

Could this be a port where you measure fuel pressure?

In K-Jet systems line pressure and control pressure are checked wih the gauge installed between the control pressure regulator and the fuel distributor.
