Did you use a coupon code?

"A124" would have taken $40 off that price.

Yes I agree that sounds like a good price for the seventies & eighties cars. Not many that I know of throw in a plastic alignment tool.
I am a cheap ya hoo and can make them out of a used up broom handle.

I wonder if how much their pricing is on the short throw nineties clutch sets. The last one I bought was almost $300, but it did come with the tool! That was back when RPR was still open and I picked it up there as shipping is a killer on those things.

What year car did you buy yours for?

Phil

Wow, that was not a bad deal at all for those years cars.

I never saw the reason for the price difference other than demand or production numbers.
Apparently inventory numbers moved in our favor with Advance Auto!
I hope its not a temporary glitch with the stocking numbers.

Same thing for O2 sensors with heaters and the universal non heated. $30 versus $85. Just does not cost hardly any difference to add a resistance wire for a heater coil. It gets baked into it a ceramic the same way. I'll wait them out!

There could have been a change within the big blue heart of the supply chains. Some " Mr. Greedy" has been pulled back into their pants along way. They like to keep things moving along as "far as the market will bear."

As they say, from the lands down under .. "Good'onya!

Phil

Good find.

Did they quote you the price for the Beck-Arnley kit? My jaw dropped when I saw that one.

hello volvo clutch sages- one of my rules for dyi car repairs is to anticipate repair realities, costs , tools, availability and foreeability of dirty tricks. been reading this piece on 240 clutches. so far the clutch in my 92 240 works well. no slipping or chattering. notice that the volvo clutch is a diaphragm type. the tradeoff with this type of clutch is softer pedal push probably due to lighter springs in the pressure plate which also reduces bustability with the clutch cable, but also means reduced clutch life. my inquiry is about which clutch to buy. 300 for clutch parts is clip city. 180 is more reasonable. you seem to recommend the sachs clutch kit. beck arnley appears less desirable. why is that? also on my prior clutch jobs(mostly slantsixes)i would usually take out the flywheel and have it smoothed/cut on a tool called a bridgestone, especially if there were any marks on it. cost about 40. is this appropriate on the 240? have heard here some advocate replacing the flywheel on 240 clutch jobs. unless the flywheel or its ring gear are damaged, that seems wasteful or salesman poppycock at the counter. what say you my esteemed advisors. thanks tons oldduke

I'm one for getting my flywheel surfaced. Hot, hard spots that you can't see, micro or macro grooves, unevenness, cracks and checking, all get ground out, or the thing gets replaced. For about $40.00, I think it's worth it. "No use stopping now"...):

you are dealing with a low torque somewhat under powered engine sending force through the clutch kit.

these facts alone suggest you have little to worry about irrespective which quality clutch kit you buy.

as for me 200 is my limit when buying a 'complete' clutch kit for these cars.

beware of the a la carte nature some vendors sell their clutch parts. good for them not so good for you

I agree. I checked the local Advance store and the kit was comparable to the what vendors usually mentioned here have to offer.

The other kit I mentioned from Advance was nearly three times the price.
